Ethiopia belongs to   the heavily affected countries of Sub-Saharan Africa  by HIV/AIDS, at a  prevalence rate of  2.4%,an estimated of 1,216,908 people  living with HIV/AIDS in 2010,according to the single Point estimate by Federal Ministry of Health and National HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office. The average   urban prevalence being 7.7%, is about  eight times greater than the average rural prevalence, which is 0.9%.
According to the same sources, in 2010, an estimated of 210,306 people are living with HIV in Addis Ababa, the prevalence rate  being 9.2%. Besides there were an estimated of 22,214 new HIV infections and 5948 annual deaths in 2009.
There are 70,097 HIV positive people in need of Antiretroviral Treatment

With the title” Healthy Mother” around 600 pregnant Women and their Partners with 800 communities altogether about 1500 participants held half day panel discussion in “Sebseba Ma’ekel” hall around sidist killo.

AAHAPCO moved its office to Kazanchis area & using its previous office as ARC

New Office Bldg.The Addis Ababa City Administration HIV /AIDS Prevention and Control Office has moved its office to Kazanchis area behind Menaharia Hotel to the building where previously A.A Women and Children Affair bureau used to operate. The Office has changed some of its Telephone numbers as follows:

On Voluntary Counseling & Testing (VCT) Day Police marching band presented street show for three days in the city’s for main area with message initiating the residents to be tested for HIV.

Prevention of HIV transmission from parents to child & other health services’ current performance, challenges faced, best practices, clients’ testimonials and directions for the future have been forwarded on ETV2 talk show from participants more than 70 governmental and non-governmental organizations.

SMS message sent to more than 1,000,000 Moblie users

On the Celebration of Voluntary Counseling & Testing day, with title “To get tested for the Sake of our Family” an SMS message sent to 1,000,000 residents of the city and as well to some residents of regional cities to initiate the get tested for HIV.

STI Clinics opened

To Prevent STI & HIV, STI Clinics opened in Arada & Addis Ketema Sub-cities for more Vulnerable Commercial Sex Workers with cooperation of Family Guidance Association & three other local NGOs.
