VCT day Celebrated

With the title” Healthy Mother” around 600 pregnant Women and their Partners with 800 communities altogether about 1500 participants held half day panel discussion in “Sebseba Ma’ekel” hall around sidist killo. On the panel, a professional from Addis Ababa Health Bureau presented on how to prevent Parent to Child HIV transmission. Two HIV Positive parents gave their testimonial of delivering children HIV FREE and there was also given a testimonial of a ninth grade student born HIV Positive.

VCT for People with disablity with Sign Language

1. To Enable People with disability get the access for HIV Counseling with Sign language, the service is launched in Menelik II & Zewditu Memorial Hospital in the presence of more than 70 Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations.

street show with Police marching band on VCT day

On Voluntary Counseling & Testing (VCT) Day Police marching band presented street show for three days in the city’s for main area with message initiating the residents to be tested for HIV. Billboard with message on PMTCT installed in the city where many people pass through. More than 700 mothers & others joined the street walk from Black Lion Hospital up to Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

 

STI Clinics opened

To Prevent STI & HIV, STI Clinics opened in Arada & Addis Ketema Sub-cities for more Vulnerable Commercial Sex Workers with cooperation of Family Guidance Association & three other local NGOs. The clinics provide VCT services, condom distribution & lesson how to use it. Peer education is being given to 3000 commercial sex workers.

Youth Summer campaign

In the city’s summer youth campaign against HIV/AIDS, more than 20000 youths initiated to participate in the campaign and many got tested for HIV.

VCT Counselor experience sharing

VCT Counselors in health institutions in their three day peer experience sharing held dialog on selected topics. The counselors raised issues they faced during their work & an answer is given by the professional.
